Handpainted Backdrops
At studio ATP24 we started painting backdrops for portrait- and editorialshootings ourselfs in May 2020.
Portrait photography is one of my main focusses in photography. I do shoot a lot on location but also at my studio here at Treptower Park.
What I have been missing was a few special backdrops to work with.
Due to the corona-Lockdown there suddenly was a lot more time then usual at hand. And so finally came the time of the 10 meters of nettle, that we had ordered months ago and hadn`t gotten around to make them into the backdrops we wanted.
My collegue Svenson and I didn`t waist much time and got started. Buy paints, cut fabric, cover the whole studio with painter foil…. And then the painting and experimenting sessions started and went on for weeks. It was actually even more fun then we had anticipated!
So here they are, our first results!
So our studio stayed a painter`s place for these lockdown time. We got the chance to try out serveral different techniques. With A LOT of water, a little bit of water, many coulours, monochrome… Sometimes it just worked right from the beginning. Other times not so much. Sometimes there were unexpected surprises, like that the backs of the backdrops often made there very own backdrops, very different from the fronts. Two in One! So great!
The backdrops are 2x3m or even 3x3m. That way the 10 meters in total don`t last very long… In order to keep production rolling we hat to be quick to reorder. Also we went through the paints like crazy.
By now we have 10 finished backdrops eagerly waiting for the end of the lockdown to be used in numerous photo sessions.
There are plenty of ideas. Portrait sessions, fashion editorials, all these possibilities 
SO EXCITED!
